AMIDST A BUMPER HEIGHT BATTLE, THE NRCA WAS BORN 

In 1988, 50 automotive enthusiasts got together to discuss bumper heights. A bill had been proposed in the Nebraska legislature that would have regulated a vehicle’s bumper to between 12 and 24 inches high — making vehicles with lower or higher bumpers illegal.

There were good reasons why this bill was being considered, but the group knew that it would cause problems for owners of special interest vehicles like hot rods. So the group voiced its concerns, and the bill didn’t pass. Those enthusiasts passed around a hat for donations to start a newsletter, and the NRCA was incorporated as a not for profit in 1992.   

The NRCA was born out of the idea that special interest vehicle owners needed a way to be involved in the Nebraska legislation process, to protect themselves from direct or indirect threats to our hobby. Now almost 40 years later, NRCA has grown to over 1,800 members in Nebraska and several other states. 

We recognized that being publicly well known and advancing our public image is also very important. So in 1993, a "Good Will" tour of Nebraska — Tour Nebraska — was started. Today, Tour Nebraska is a yearly event, with more than 400 vehicles participating in a two-day, 500-mile adventure on the roads of Nebraska.
